Finis

Some of the ex-pats have a joke about everything in The Gambia being 'finis'. Juice has finis, power has finis, foreign currrency has finis. It is true, things often seem to have run out, but I really haven't felt it being too bad. It was all part of the experience. But now my elective has ended. I am finis. London and even my room has changed proportions (too wide yet everything seems squashed in lengthwise). I must not expect buses to stop for me if they are under capacity or to high-five young men in the street.

There's so much more to add to this blog. If I regain my pre-elective habit of spending too long online, I might make some more entries to fill you in. Otherwise, this is the last post. At the beginning, one of you said that by blogging it would feel like my friends are with me all the way. It worked- you guys kept in touch so well that I was able to enjoy it, and it is going to be easier to go through the photos because you have a background idea of what it was like- thanks!

Sounds like you had a fun time in The Gambia! I actually lived there myself as a Peace Corps Volunteer, similar to British VSO's. Reading your blog reminded me Banjul, Kombo, and what life was like there. Apparantly we missed each other by two months, I left the country in July 2005. Thanks for refreshing the memories!
