Who's here

I looked at the statistics for this blog today, which report what people typed into their search engines. I shouldn't have been suprised- the main reason why strangers come here intentionally is food :D It is said that humans love things that tickle their senses, and that only two human activities involve all the senses, one of those being eating.

Some people asked the search engine questions about The Gambia, but the answers were not easy to find, so here's a list which might help anyone else looking for the same things.

Are there ATM machines in Banjul airport?
No, but there is a foreign exchange. There are four ATM machines in The Gambia- one on the road between Fajara and Bakau, another in Senegambia (the main tourist resort), one at the Westfield junction and one at the traffic lights.
The maximum you can withdraw in one transaction is 2000D but they do run out sometimes :)

What does Lamin mean?
Lamin is a popular first name, for first-born boys. I don't remember whether Awa is the name for the first or second female twin.

Gambian tribe names
The three main tribes are Mandinka, Wolof and Fula, but there are many more- see the Gambian National Records Service site: http://www.nrs.gm/people%20of%20the%20Gambia.htm

Kora lessons
http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~tinvic/compoundsounds/ and www.gambiangriot.com (this site includes a pricelist)

What do they eat in The Gambia?
In keeping with the mass interest in food there are many internet sites on the subject but I suppose people coming here want blog-style information- so here are links to mine and Alex's entries about your favourite subject:

Hi Cybercoolie
Thanks for your blog address. There are many free stats providers but I quite like this one www.debuging.com because I find it interesting to know which countries my readers are in (that's why I also have that map in the sidebar) and what they were looking for.
